How do you tell which gender each fly is?

- why do most of you guys call them "FLY" and not fry? - May 17, 2001
- Leave them together until it's obvious which are males -- then remove them -- later on there will be more males so remove them then. You can tell by their behavior -- but wait for the fins to grow noticeably longer. The males won't fight until after they have been seperated. Their fins are the sure way -- and it's fine to wait until they grow out. Some of the precocious males will have longer fins at 6 weeks. - Nov 13, 2000
