What is the earliest age you should attempt to spawn?

jacks808 - The female is at an ideal age (3-4months). I have found that fish that are between 3-7months of age to be the easiest to breed. - Dec 29, 2000
Arielle Martin - I once saw on a website it is possible to breed them when they are 2 months old. - Sep 23, 2001
BettasX - Convert it this way. 1 month for a betta equals 3 human years. This is usually the case. So 5 months should be the optimal or one of the best times to breed for both fish. - Dec 29, 2000
b_splendens - The condition of the fish is the indicator -- females must have oviposter showing and male must be building nest. The first time or two they may botch the spawn -- they will learn.

so...even if they are small, it's ok to breed them as long as the female is showing her ovispoter and the male is blowing nests. This is because their physical age is dependent upon water temp- caloric consumption and water changes. Bettas age different than mammals. - Nov 13, 2000
