Can I cross-breed between different strains?

- Generally, YES. You can breed bettas of same or different color, finage, tail. Chances are that you'll get spawns which will follow the more dominant traits. This has to do with genetics.

Usually, however, most breeders prefer certain traits or color, and that is where 'selective breeding' practice comes in. This is where you understand how certain traits are dominant or recessive over another, and selectively choose a pair that will produce those traits. That's the real fun of betta breedings. - Nov 14, 2000
