Kelvin - Those
slimy stuff that form on the walls of tanks are cause by dead bactical (both good and bad bactical). Many people thought that by washing the container regularly helps to slove the problem. It does for the time being but the slimy stuff gets back very quickly after the water is replaced. To my studies, i understand that these stuff are dead bactical form due to sudden change of water conditions and also the lack of oxygen . One solution is to add a air tube into the water with a very fine air stone .. see for yourself what happens ..... both fish and water stays clear.

T.S. - These idiots, most of them, didn't answer
the question. It doesn't really matter. It
might be better because plastic is
cheaper. It might keep a bad smell more
than glass. I have found that hexes are
cheap and look pretty nice.

- Bettas do not like overly bright lighting, their eyes are sensitive however, I have noticed that bettas finnage (particularly males) looks thick and lush under a blue fluorescent light. If your planning to have bright lights to make the fish look nicer, remember to have many plants for them to hide under if the light gets to bright or the poor little fishies could get a little stressed.

- Generally, it doesn't really matter. Plastic tanks are scratched more easily during washing or transport, but otherwise it should work as well as a glass tank.
