Terminology



xeries - Pelvic fins are ventral fins. The anal fin is also considered a ventral fin. Ventral means lower whereas dorsal means higher (these are anatomy terms). The ventral fins are those located on the lowest point on the fish. Therefore, the dorsal fin is the fin located the highest on the fish. Caudal refers to the rear region and cranial refers to the head region. Pectoral fins are those on the sides of the fish located in the area where one would find pectoral muscles. You know kind of like when you see a guy who works out and you say "hey nice pecs!" 'Course wouldn't it look funny if he had fins coming out nearby instead of arms lol.
