zlher - I am very well aware of the techniques associated with "slow growth",
but would like honest opinions as to how many individuals would buy such
a fish?
Those who aren't familiar with "slow growth" process...it's when the
breeder(s) intentionally lower the water temperatures to around 71 to 76
degrees to lower the metabolism on the bettas so that their body and
fins have more time to grow evenly (or larger).
The above process no doubt has its own toll...the fish may be 6 months
old and yet has a body size of a 2 1/2 month old juvenile (1 1/4 to 1
1/2 inch from mouth to peduncle). I have recently been engaged in talks
with several breeders who are touting "slow growth" practices as the
best method to mature bettas and TOTALLY disagree with this practice
because older fishes can be passed as younger ones. Several fishes were
brought to my attentions and the breeder tried to pass them as 3 month old
bettas...yeah right!!!
Who would buy a "slow growth" betta(s) that is 6 months old with the
body size of 1 1/4 - 1 3/4 inch? Anyone? All that you are doing is
encouraging the widespread practices of this technique.
