Can a male betta live together with a female betta?

- Yes, I have my male betta and my female betta in my community tank with all my other fish. She hasn\'t been hurt yet and shes need there for probably a month now. She will avoid him pretty much but if you see torn fins you male may be way to agressive. make sure you have hiding spots and vegetation. I have mine in with my 8 common Zebra Danios, 5 goldfish (brang home from school over break), 2 tadpoles (also from break), my frog, my 3 Gold Danios, and my 4 Blue Longfin Danios. Just watch them and remove the female if she gets hurt. - Jun 16, 2002
Hans - Yes, if your tank is big enough with a lot of vegetations and hiding places for the female to hide from the male. Typically, you'll only place a male and female together for mating (breeding) and after which the male will chase the female away from the bubblenest. Some fierce male will go to the extend of killing the female if there is no place for the female to escape or hide. On the other hand, it may be advisable to seperate them until you are ready to breed them. - Nov 4, 2000
