Is it okay to put Tetras in the same tank as a male Betta?

- Yes if they are not aggressive tetras. I have 20 neons and 10 harlequin rasboras with my betta and have not had any problems. However be careful with the larger tetras which can be aggressive and are fast swimmers. A friend had a betta in with several black skirt tetras, and they terrorized the betta and nipped his tail down to nothing. He was found hiding behind a rock, where he would periodically dart to the surface for air, and return to hide. Bettas are slow swimmers and do not seem able to defend themselves against fish that can dart around very quickly. - Jan 8, 2002
