Should we promote trading or selling of betta spawns?

- We recognize that such subject will always start debate on protectionism versus being open to [local] competition. Our belief is that if someday someone comes along and manages to produce a better betta based on what you have sold him (or her!), it'll be good for him because his breeding methods must be better than yours. Rather than a dampener, it should spur one to re-examine one's methods and spur all of us on to greater heights. The ultimate winner is the betta scene here in Singapore. This is also the basis for introducing competition in any industry, so that consumers would get a better level of service. It is why the US is at the pinnacle of the betta map, because they were willing to share what they have and compete against each other. What we need is more competition (in the form of show fish competitions) not less. - Nov 7, 2000
