Bought 2 bettas @ pet store w good rep. these 2 i got 4 days ago, still will no eat a thing, otherwise very healthy flaring at other fish, swimming actively, is it normal for them to ignore food for so long? they are not sick in any way

Hans - It's common to experience this on newly bought bettas, or fishes in general. Mainly because they are used to eat certain kind of food given by the pet shop and are therefore not familiar or like those you are giving. Ask the pet shop what they feed on, or you can let them ignore the food until they get hungry enough one day and start feeding on anything you give them. Try to clear those uneaten or left over food to avoid clouding the water thought. Fishes, especially bettas, are known to go without food for even a week or more. And in fact that's the adive given to holiday makers who leave their fishes unattended for up to a week instead of using "holiday tablets" or overdose the feeds before the journey. - Nov 17, 2001

  1. I have bought several bettas in the last year or so. All have met the same fate. After less than a week of having them..I find them dead..pale and covered in a nasty film all over their body. I keep them in small round fish bowls..no filter. I treat the water with a few drops of NovAqua consitioner and skin coating. The first two fish did not have the water treated with anything...the last two did. But all four died in the same way! What am I don't wrong? It seems a really painful way to die..they start off so bright and beautiful only to grow sluggish and pale:( Please help! (3 ans, 1130 views)
