[Betta Breeding] Few questions about breeding..

Hi, i have a male betta and a two female betta(one big and one small). They are in separated jar but i decided to put them in a 2.5gal aquarium. The two females have big belly but i don't know whether they have eggs. I noticed that the male betta occasionally chase both female betta. The male betta have created bubblenest but continued to chase the other two so i have separated them 3 again. The male remains in the aquarium with a female in a jar inside the same aquarium and the other female in a separate jar. So i left home thinking that they are all safe but when i got home, i saw the female is inside the aqurium. Her head is pointing above motionless so i decided to separate her, as i do that, the male chases her away from the nest. Then after that i so tiny white eggs under the nest, so i think they've spawned.

I am thinking how did the female get out of the jar. Did she jump just to mate with the male because she can no longer carry the eggs herself?or its just maybe an accident?

My aquarium have substrate and undergravel filter but i have currently switch them off thinking that the bubblenest may be destroyed. Is that ok for the eggs and the male betta?

What should i feed to the fry if they get hatch? Our local petstore doesn't sell any BBS or any fry food. Is it ok to substitute it for a hard-boiled egg yolk?how do i prepare it?

Is there anything i have missing?I really want my eggs to survive.I want to breed more betta. Do you know that no one sells female betta in our local. except that my dad bought two female for me from a far place.

thanks in advance who could help me!

He does still swim around, but I have noticed that he is hanging around the plants and bottom a little more. I think the person who fed him for a couple of days may have overfed him, (even though I gave explicit instructions on how to feed him). He does seem somewhat bloated, but no discoloration or odd appearance otherwise. What should I do? Thank you in advance for any advice you could give. I've knew he's been bloated for a few months and I can assure you it's not overfeeding since a feed him a fair amount once every one or two days. I noticed recently he's been moving around to the bottom and when motionless, he floats atop. Sideways. As if he were a styrofoam ball. Methinks it's his bloated stomach. Any suggestions to this? I'm mainly worried about his floating.:S

I've seen some bettas in the color pattern called 4th of July, which obviously is red, white and blue. A guy that frequents the "Betta Fish Forum" has a photo of the nicest one I've ever seen. He calls this incredibly beautiful male Crown Tail "Cher". Cher's photo can be seen here in the "PHOTO" section;

http://www.bettafishforum.com/betta-fish-photos/2-betta-fish-general-pictures/103-cher-fish.html

He actually found this fish in a pet store!!

My question is: Describe the process that would lead me to the best shot at achieving this pattern. What fish would I pair-up? Second generation match-up? Would buying fish that I find in pet stores cause too much variance in results, due to their possible mutt (mixed) heritage?

I'd ultimately like to achieve a cleaner light-colored body with the red, white, and blue finnage.

Ok , i have 2 10gal tanks, water is 80degrees F in both, banana plants / artificial plants, stirofoam cups etc. Everything is set up properly. In the 1 tank im breeding a full red halfmoon male with a red halfmoon female. The male decided to build his bubble nest in the middle of the tank near a plant instead of in the stirofoam cup. The nest is huge, the female has vertical bars and is fat, i released her into the tank, a couple hrs later after some agression, she was submissive, he keeps trying to wrap around her and is squeezing, but no eggs are coming out. What's the problem here??

The 2nd tank i have a full halfmoon teal male and a royal blue halfmoon female. I started this tank with a clear divider in the tank, kept them in there for 4 days, he didnt build a nest, so i lifted the divider up for 6 hrs, he still didnt attempt to blow any nest bubbles.. What could be the problem here??

Please help me out :) Thanks in advance for your advice, i apprechiate it! :)

[Betta Breeding] Huge nest + Willing Female - They wont mate!! Help!

This is my first time trying to breed betas, i have a red male halfmoon betta and a teal halfmoon female ( i got the pair from a friend of a friend ). I have them in a 10 gal. tank with approximately 6 inches of water , heater , lotsa plants on 1 side and a half of a foam cup on the opposite side. I let the male loose in the 10 gal tank alone and i had the female in a small tank along side of his tank so they can see eachother. They flared at eachother for a couple days, she displayed vertical stripes on her body and he filled the up the whole foam cup with his nest, at this point i decided to let the female in his tank.

Now here is my problem. She has been in there for 3 days, still displaying vertical bars, still plump with eggs. She is willing and wanting to mate, she swims vertically with fins down underneath the nest and he then flares up and chases her away and then goes back to his nest and blows more bubbles. I asked the guy i bought the pair from and he said to try to take her out for a day or two and try again. I did this, i still get the same result. I dont know what to do, i put her bank in the tank yesterday and he is still doing the same thing, he is not really attacking her , he just goes to his nest, blows bubbles then goes to the other side of the tank to see her , he flares at her and then he swims back to his nest. I dont understand it. Should i try using a different female , is there something i am doing wrong ? what should i do??

Also i have another question : If i take the male out of the tank and replace him with another male, will he use the other males bubblenest to mate with the female or will he have to make his own??

any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

So.
I recently purchased a new male betta [Named RJ.]. It's very pretty; bluish, with a crimson tail. It seemed the most active in the tank, with the other fish in the store. I bought it with my own money,[ =DD ] and I really don't want it dying.

I looked stuff up about taking care of them, and I think I have a good handle. I blew all of my money on the actual betta and bowl, so I'm with out a filter and plants...
But. Stuff has been happening.

Right now it's in a 1 gallon tank, with no filter. It's basically just a glass bowl. I feed it blood dry blood worms three times a week, and 3 Wardely betta pellets twice everyday. [6 pellets total per day] everyday. I clean the tank about once a week, removing the rocks, and throughly cleaning\rinsing the bowl and adding the rocks again.

I'm a little lost though. It doesn't eat the pellets, or blood worms. He'll go to eat them, and he just kinda spits them back out. They just kinda sink to the bottom on the bowl and cloud it up. And a mass of bubbles has just appeared. Is that normal? And why isn't he eating?

Dx And help is greatly appriciated.
Thanks so much...

its normal for bettas to not make bubble nests. What you could try to do is you can transfer a bubble nest from another betta and put it into the tank. I don't know if this will work, but it has before >:D

Bettas are like many women, finicky. Not a bad thing, it just adds to their spectre. He should be fine in 2-3 days. Make sure to keep an eye on him, however. Feed and watch.

You gave some of your water parameters, but I did not see any results for chlorine/chloramine tests. Some metros still use this archaic method to sanitize the water supply. Have you checked that? Might help.

i have been trying to breed my bettas for a few weeks now. This is my first time breeding bettas, but i have been taking good care of them and doing my best to condition them. I feed them a bunch of frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms each day, keep the water at 80 degrees, put an almond leaf in the water, and i am putting in Spawn-Aid to speed up the spawning process. Yet my bettas refuse to breed! The male makes bubble nest, and just today made a very large one, and gets excited whenever he sees the female. the female is active and her ovipositer is sticking out, yet whenever i put her in the hurricane lantern, she refuses to show vertical bars. i've tried to breed them three times, but all failed. i am thinking that perhaps the female is too old to breed, but i believe she is younger than the male who is almost a year old. what am i doing wrong?

[Betta Feeding] Re: feeding betta fry?

Hi daisy,
From what i experienced betta fry do not touch or even so much as look at processed food aka commercial fish food/pellets/flakes. Even at week 4 they will not even eat frozen shrimps or worms.

As you should have read by now from your research, Liquid fry for egg layers is actually not for the fry, it's for the micro-organism living in the tank. It'll create a BOOM of them when added. And yes, 1-2 days old fry will eat those micro-organism. In fact if you prepare(ketapang leaves and a hardy live plant) your tank a week prior to the breeding, these organism will grow, feeding for fry for 2 days after free-swimming, no liquid fry needed.

After 2 day, I'd suggest feeding a small portion of microworms to see if the fry are willing to eat them (most likely YES). Remember to rinse the microworms till the solution is clear. Otherwise the water will foul up very fast, killing tons of fry. Remember microworms are like rice to fry, it's the cheapest and the most stable food source you're going to have, so start a few cultures in advance (3 is enough for me).

And do not try hard boiled chicken egg yolk, they foul up the water within a heartbeat. You have been warned.

Fry LOVE BBS. I feed them when they're 2 weeks old, fry do very finely on microworms for from day 2 till week 2 (and even after), after week 2 I feed a mixture of BBS and microworms (especially when i didn't manage to get a good BBS yield that day). But BBS are not stable food source, they have a small harvesting window and don't survive long in the tank and today's yield can crash on you just like that *snaps finger*. But they are good food for the fry. Do remember to get a good brand.

Many sites will tell you not to do any water change during first 2 weeks. My advise is if you see most of the fry hanging around at the surface of the water, do a 20% water change.

A small water filter after 2 week is recommended. It helps circulate the water.

Hope this helps. To answer your question directly, no you can't feed them liquid fry ONLY till they are big enough for you BBS / fry food. You have to get microworms.
