Hi all,

I have a 10 Gal with two lovely female Bettas. I also have a Pleco and two small algae eaters that do a wonderful job of keeping the place sparkling clean. I do like to reward the workers for this awesome job by giving them algae rounds to complement their diet (there is only so much algae in a 10 Gal...).
Problem is that the female Bettas will eat the algae rounds!! They are now bloated and fat.
I am giving 1/2 an algae round every two days. I feed at night with the tank light off to avoid the bettas from seeing when I drop the rounds. next morning, I find them nibbling at any leftovers and fat and round from eating! I changed the tank layout to have a strong current on one side to see if that kept them at bay, but is just making them stronger from fighting against the current and eating the rounds!
Any ideas? short of starving the algae eaters of the tank or exploding my bettas I cant find a better feeding method.

thanks

If the weather there is warm year round, you can always breed your bettas the old fashoned Thai way. Even if it is warm during one season of the year, you can always breed them during that one season. I have posted a link below to explain the process. It is MUCH easier this way, and much less maintenance. And the fry ALWAYS have food no matter if it is provided by you or not. Just remember if you try to breed your bettas this way, to always keep the fry bowl/tank/pond thinger under an openly exposed tent like structure, to keep the rain from overflowing the water in your fry tank. But you want to keep it open at all 4 sides, so the mosquitos will produce larva in the water for your fry. I've tried this technique before in the summer when it stayed warm during both day and night, and it has worked out beautifully. The fry stay fat and happy, and grow fairly fast. :) Check out the page on the how to's of breeding the Thai way and lemme know wacha think.

sorry no food no fries. Try egg yolk cooked mix with bit water or if really desparate and high risk failure go to a mature pond and take cupful of water it will have lots of bugs in it they can eat.but high chance the water can kill them too. Egg will dirty your water so it has to be changed often

Well, it's not every other day. It's every 2 days. Mine had them every other day, and passed away. Now I have 2. I feed Rudy and Savannah twice a day 2 pellets. It's better to feed them pellets. Bloodworms, if u give them only blood worms,it will kill him or her. Trust me. Give him bloodworms every 2 days, unless u want to breed it. Hope I helped out!
